BioDiesel
Aris BioEnergy collects UCO from thousands of eateries, hotels, restaurants across the cities and provides it to BioDiesel refineries listed under the RUCO project. Please refer to the RUCO website for more details.
Studies show that biodiesel-powered engines have torque and horsepower when compared to diesel-powered engines. Interestingly, the study also reveals that Biodiesel has a higher cetane rating that helps reduce smoke emissions and reduces your carbon footprint.
Yes. Biodiesel is an alternative to fossil fuels. It further reduces greenhouse gases (GHGs), reduces several major air pollutants, and has minimal impact on human and environmental health.
Biodiesel has a plethora of advantages –
- Produced from renewable resources
- Is biodegradable and non-toxic fuel
- Aids in foreign exchange
- Betters nation’s fuel economy
- Generated 90% lesser emissions compared to conventional Diesel
- Positive impact on the economics of the country
- Helps to create green jobs and opportunities
- Builds energy security for the country
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel to conventional diesel. It is a renewable and clean-burning fuel produced from resources like vegetable oil, used cooking oil, animal fat, or agricultural oil. Biodiesel is free of sulfur and aromatics and therefore, 85% less polluting than other forms of fuels. It is simple to use, biodegradable, and non-toxic.
Used Cooking Oil (UCO)
When Used Cooking Oil converts to BioDiesel, it helps in reducing dependence on imported diesel while creating green jobs for the youth, improves our environment and also, paves a path to sustainable living for all.
Studies show that biodiesel-powered engines have torque and horsepower when compared to diesel-powered engines. Interestingly, the study also reveals that Biodiesel has a higher cetane rating that helps reduce smoke emissions and reduces your carbon footprint.
If you have used the same cooking oil before, sniff it before reusing it. If the oil smells off or unusual it has gone rancid. If you are still unsure, heat a few drops of the oil and take a whiff.
Another way to test is by checking the color of your UCO. The darker the color of your oil, the more rancid and unhealthy it becomes.
DO NOT use oil that smells weird or turned dark brown or even black in color.
Any cooking oil, if used or heated again and again changes its chemical composition and makes it carcinogenic (particulates that cause cancer).
Furthermore, reheating cooking oil deteriorates its quality resulting in various health issues like obesity, gastric problems, which can cause stroke, and even affect the liver.
When any kind of cooking oil is heated twice, it can be categorized as used cooking oil. Such cooking oil is harmful to our health. It must be contributed to generate biodiesel.
